Thursday, September 5, City Pipe employees and their families attended the American Tribute Event in Odessa, Texas to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in 9/11 and also to pay tribute to local first responders. This year had an even greater meaning to employees after the tragedies that took place in Odessa on August 31, claiming the lives of 7 innocent people and injuring 25 others.
Employees volunteered to place 3,000 American flags around the Memorial Garden Park in Odessa. This was City Pipe’s 10th year in a row to support the event as a company.
Following the event, City Pipe hosted a dinner for employees and their families. It was a wonderful opportunity for employees from different City Pipe locations to come together with their families and get to know one another better. Kids enjoyed playing on a jumper, getting their faces painted and having balloon art made for them.
In addition to supporting the event, employees did something new and special this year. City Pipe took up a donation for the local police departments to purchase them bullet proof vests and other needed equipment.
Employees exceeded all fundraising goals and donated $4,933 out of their own pockets. City Pipe matched all employee donations dollar for dollar and the total raised came out to $9,866. This will purchase over 6 bullet proof vests for the Odessa Police Department, 1 bullet proof vest for the Wink Police Department, and 2 Stop Sticks for the Big Spring Police Department.
“It’s really important to City Pipe and our employees to support our local police departments and first responders," said City Pipe President Brett Lossin.
"We’re very thankful and appreciative of the work they do in keeping our community safe. I’m very proud of my employees for being so generous and willing to give back and support the community.”
